DHAKA, Dec 13, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury today said democracy will triumph in the upcoming national parliamentary election.
He said, "The upcoming election is not just about the victory of BNP; it will be the triumph of democracy. The BNP is the torchbearer of democracy, we must fulfill this responsibility."
Khasru made the remarks in the inauguration ceremony at the last day of the BNP's seven-day programme titled 'Plan for Nation Building' at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) Convention Hall in the city.
The senior BNP leader said, "Today's nation-building programme is part of the BNP's pledge, the blueprint and the dream our leader Tarique Rahman has for building the future of the nation. We are all most delighted because on December 25, the most popular leader of Bangladesh, whose arrival the country awaits, will return to Bangladesh's politics. His return will be the culmination of the struggle we have undertaken in recent years to bring back democracy and a democratic order."
"The hero of that movement, the torchbearer of democracy, under whose leadership the nation was united and successful in that movement Tarique Rahman will Insha'Allah return to Bangladesh," he added.
Referring to the shooting incident involving Sharif Osman Hadi, he remarked, "It is very unfortunate. The President of the Chittagong Metropolitan area was attacked. Another incident occurred yesterday. This happens at a time when stability is extremely important. The BNP is envisioning a new dream for Bangladesh's political culture, and the people of Bangladesh have endured 17 years of oppression and persecution... The politics Tarique Rahman embodies is aimed at building a stable and peaceful Bangladesh, considering the mental shift that has occurred among the people of Bangladesh after August 5, 2024."
He added, "We see a contrasting politics. That is the politics of mobocracy, the politics of brute force, the politics of disrespecting others, the politics of belittling others. It is the politics of instability on any pretext, which is undesirable for democracy in Bangladesh."
Then the BNP leader urged party leaders and activists to "keep their eyes and ears open" regarding this matter.
Presenting the plan for governing the nation, he said, "The benefits of democracy and economic benefits must be delivered to every person in the country. Not just political democracy, but economic democracy must also be established. Our work will begin from the very first day we take power."
The BNP Standing Committee member said, "Investment in education and healthcare, rather than mega-projects in the name of development, will be the BNP's priority. Sustainable development is not possible without fulfilling people's basic needs."
BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi presided over the event and Joint Secretary General Habib Un Nabi Khan Sohel moderated it. BNP leaders from across the country participated in this workshop.
