DNCC files case over attack during eviction drive in Mirpur

DHAKA, Dec 12, 2025 (BSS) – Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has filed a case against 31 identified individuals and 200–250 unidentified persons over the attack and vandalism of DNCC vehicles during an eviction drive at Mirpur-1 on December 9.

Surveyor Md Taslim Hossain filed the case with Shah Ali Police Station last night on behalf of the DNCC, accusing 31 named persons along with 200–250 unidentified attackers.

According to the case statement, the eviction drive, led by DNCC Executive Magistrate Marufa Begum Neli, began around 1:50 pm on December 9 to remove makeshift shops adjacent to the Shaheed Minar, playground and children's park in the area.

Officers and employees from DNCC’s Property Division Court-1 and Region-2 participated in the operation.

During the drive, a group of 200–250 unidentified people, including 31 identified individuals, suddenly attacked DNCC officials and staff with iron rods and bamboo sticks. They also hurled bricks and stones at them.

The attackers obstructed government work and attempted to attack the executive magistrate’s team with the intention of killing them, the case statement said.

They also vandalized the magistrate’s vehicle, two pay loaders and a backhoe loader, causing damage worth about Tk 13.80 lakh.

Magistrate’s driver Md Raju Mia, backhoe operator Abed, pay loader operator Royal and several staff members, including a cleaner, sustained injuries in the attack.

The complaint stated that the case was filed a few days later due to the treatment of the injured and the time needed to collect the names and addresses of the attackers.

The DNCC said such a heinous attack on an eviction drive conducted in the public interest is very unfortunate, and stressed that necessary measures should be taken to bring the culprits to justice.
