DHAKA, Dec 9, 2025 (BSS) - The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) carried out extensive anti-smuggling operations throughout November 2025, seizing a vast amount of contraband worth Tk 168.38 crore from border regions and other strategic locations.
According to BGB press release, the seized items included over 2 kilogram of gold, 121 grams of silver, 17,234 saris, 21,338 three-piece/shirtpiece/chadar/blanket items, 27,450 ready-made garments, 9,740 meters of Than cloth, 3,40,380 cosmetics, and 6,564 pieces of imitation jewelry.
Additional confiscations consisted of 10,09,421 fireworks, 6,216 cubic feet of wood, 1,284 kg of tea leaves, 11,479 kg of betel nut, 66,546 kg of coal, 12,890 cubic feet of stone, 597 kg of yarn/current net, 15,178 plastic/electronic items, 445 mobile phones, 15,145 mobile displays, 73,564 glasses, 37,690.500 kg of cumin, 4,970 kg of sugar, 1,63,490 kg of onion, 1,731 kg of garlic, 4,680 packets of seeds, 6,320 kg of fertilizer, 2,684 packets of pesticides, 485 liters of diesel, and 1,68,021 pieces of chocolate.
BGB also seized 819 cows and buffaloes, along with a significant number of vehicles used for smuggling, including 16 trucks/covered vans, 17 pickups/Mahendras, 4 tractors, 2 private cars/microbuses, 14 trolleys, 179 boats, 38 CNG/easy bikes, 54 motorcycles, and 31 bicycles/vans.
BGB reported a major haul of narcotics last month, including -- 20,58,789 Yaba tablets, 193 grams of heroin, 3,714 bottles of Phensedyl, 7,176 bottles of foreign liquor, 203.9 liters of Bengali liquor, 608 cans of beer, 1,526.05 kg of marijuana, 1,17,851 packets of bidis and cigarettes, 50,585 narcotic tablets/injections, 3,463 bottles of Escafe syrup, 8,156 Anegra/Senegra tablets, 56,120 alcohol-making pills, 7,67,923 pieces of various medicines and tablets.
The operation led to the recovery of several weapons, including four country-made pistols, one hand grenade, two magazines, 19 rounds of ammunition, 2.3 kg of gunpowder, three mines, six crude bombs, and nine other weapons.
During these operations, BGB arrested 159 smugglers involved in drug and contraband trafficking.
Additionally, 137 Bangladeshi citizens and two Indian nationals were detained for illegal border crossing.
Legal measures have been taken against them.
BGB also pushed back 403 Myanmar nationals attempting to enter Bangladesh illegally.
Authorities stated that the operations will continue with strengthened intelligence and surveillance to combat smuggling and ensure border security.
