DHAKA, Dec 5, 2025 (BSS) - A lion that escaped from its enclosure at the National Zoo in the capital this afternoon was safely returned to its cage.

However, no harms were reported during this period.

Soon after the incident, security measures at the zoo were tightened and visitors were moved to safe locations, a press release of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock said.

A specially trained animal-management team managed to tranquilize the lion and guide it back into its enclosure after nearly an hour of effort.

The animal is in normal physical condition and is being kept under close observation by a team of veterinarians.

To investigate how the lion came out of its enclosure, a two-member inquiry committee has been formed, headed by Dr. Md. Bayzer Rahman, Director (Administration) of the Department of Livestock Services.

The other member is Deputy Director (Farm) Md Shariful Haque.

The committee will submit its report within three days to the Director General of the Department of Livestock Services, Dr. Md. Abu Sufiun.

Expressing gratitude for the cooperation and concern shown by visitors and the media, zoo authorities said stricter measures will be implemented to further ensure visitor safety.

They also clarified that visiting the zoo remains completely safe and all regular activities continue as usual.
