KHULNA, Dec 3, 2025 (BSS) - A Bagerhat court on Wednesday landed 10 fishermen to jail on the charge of illegal fishing in the Sundarbans.
Earlier, Forest guards arrested 10 fishermen for fishing in a restricted canal inside the Sundarbans East Forest Division under the Sharankhola Range yesterday (Tuesday) evening.
They also seized five boats and huge nets during the raid.
According to Forest Department sources, on secret information, a team led by Forest Ranger Milton Roy of the Dublar Char Forest Patrol Outpost conducted an operation on Tuesday evening.
The team arrested six fishermen with three boats from Chan Miyar Khal in the Shelar Char patrol area, and four others with two boats from Kalamiyar Khal.
The fishermen were allegedly preparing to fish in the sanctuary area in violation of restrictions. Of them, eight are residents of Koyra in Khulna and two are from Sharankhola.
Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury of Sundarbans East Forest Division said a case has been filed against the detainees under the Forest Act.
They were produced before a Bagerhat court on Wednesday morning, he said, adding that they could not know the identification of the arrestees.
