DHAKA, Dec 1, 2025 (BSS) - The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has submitted a charge sheet against Taslima Islam and former sub-register M Abdul Awal for allegedly attempting to illegally acquire an abandoned government plot in Gulshan here in the city through fraud and forged documents.
ACC Director General M Akhter Hossain disclosed the development at the Commission's regular media briefing held at its headquarters on Monday.
The case was originally filed on June 16, 2014, with Gulshan Police Station under Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947, along with Sections 167, 217, 218, 109, 420, 467, 468, 471 and 511 of the Penal Code. The then Assistant Director of the Directorate of Government Accommodation, M Masudul Alam, lodged the complaint. ACC Deputy Director Mozammil Hossain conducted the investigation.
According to ACC findings, a plot (B-84) measuring 11 kathas and 6 chhataks in Gulshan Model Town was leased to M Ali Hossain in 1961 during the Pakistan era, and re-allotted to Anisul Fatema in 1966. After the leaseholder left the country during the 1971 Liberation War, the property was declared abandoned under President's Order No.16 of 1972 and placed under the Directorate of Government Accommodation.
The ACC investigation revealed that no evidence was found confirming the existence of the alleged owner, Anisul Fatema, and that accused Taslima Islam attempted to claim the plot through fraudulent means.
Investigators found that on January 5, 2005, Taslima Islam, in collusion with then Gulshan sub-register M Abdul Awal, prepared a power of attorney deed in violation of the Power of Attorney Act, 1882. The document was determined to be fake, with the listed address-32 Hatkhola Road, Dhaka-also proven false. No legitimate witnesses were present for the deed.
The investigation concluded that both accused acted together in a conspiracy to misappropriate abandoned government property through misuse of authority, forgery, and deception.
Based on the probe report, the ACC has formally submitted the charge sheet against Taslima Islam and Abdul Awal.
