LAKSHMIPUR, Nov 29, 2025 (BSS) – Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Joint Secretary General Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee today underscored the need for raising united voice against drug abuse saying it has become a massive social menace.
“Abuse of drugs has become a social disease even in the remote areas of Lakshmipur. A single elected public representative cannot build a drug abuse free society alone. Social awareness and social movements are indispensable for that,” he said.
Anee made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the scholarship awarding ceremony organized by Lakshmipur Ideal Foundation on the premises of Lakshmipur National Ideal School and College.
He urged the students to engage themselves in extracurricular activities alongside traditional academic learning to stay physically and mentally fit .
Hamed Bahar, Chairman of Lakshmipur Ideal School and College, chaired the event while the institution’s Principal Professor Rafiqul Islam, Director Faruk Hossain Nurnabi, Vice Principal Habibur Rahman Sobuj, President of Sadar (East) Upazila BNP Main Uddin Chowdhury Riaz, and District Mohila Dal President Sabera Anwar, among others, also spoke.
Ideal Foundation has been providing scholarships to meritorious students for the past 16 years. This year, 1,500 students from the district took part in the scholarship examination held on November 22. Among them, 200 students received scholarships.
Abdullah Al Abir, a student of Lakshmipur Government Primary Girls’ School, secured first place and won a laptop. Jannatul Mawa Mahi, also from the same school, secured second place, while Ahenjita Bhowmik from PTI Government Experimental School, Lakshmipur secured third place.
