DHAKA, Nov 27, 2025 (BSS) - The government has appointed 174 senior assistant secretaries as upazila nirbahi officers (UNOs) at 174 upazilas ahead of the planned national election in February.

   The public administration ministry issued separate notifications signed by deputy secretary Aminul Islam in this regard here yesterday.

It said the transferred UNOs have also been serving duties in various districts as senior assistant commissioners.

The notifications said that the government has also delegated the power of executive magistrates to those 174 BCS (administration cadre) officers under the Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898 as perform their duties as executive magistrates under their jurisdictions.

It, however, said that the transferred officers will join their posted designated stations by November 30, otherwise they will be stand released from afternoon on the date.

“If the transferred officer's office or workplace was changed in the meantime, he or she will submit joining letter, mentioning name and address of in service office,” the notification stated.
