DHAKA, Jan 21, 2026 (BSS)– Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Chief Additional Inspector General of police Md Sibgat Ullah today called upon the police personnel to perform their duties with the highest level of professionalism and dedication ahead of the upcoming 13th national election and referendum, slated for February 12 next.
“With the national elections approaching, the overall situation in the country can change quickly. This makes our responsibilities even more important and challenging,” he said.
He made the remarks in a two-day quarterly crime review meeting for the October–December 2025 period at the CID Headquarters at Malibagh in Dhaka.
Referring to the election period, Sibgat Ullah added, “Elections are our privilege. Even with limited resources, we must fulfil our responsibilities with maximum preparation.”
He has called for collective efforts to further brand CID as a strong, trustworthy, and professional investigative agency.
In his opening remarks, he emphasized that establishing justice remains the core mission of the police and noted that the pre-election period presents unique and rapidly changing challenges.
He has stressed the need for strengthening investigation standards ahead of the country’s upcoming 13th national parliament election.
The CID Chief stated that the meeting would critically assess the current state of investigations, identify deficiencies and leakages, and explore areas for improvement.
Stressing the importance of investigation as the foundation of policing, he said that as the country’s premier investigative agency, CID must ensure that every investigation meets international standards.
CID Central Crime DIG Md. Nazrul Islam said the meeting primarily focused on identifying problems in CID’s activities and investigation processes and determining effective solutions.
The implementation status of decisions taken in previous meetings will be reviewed to assess effectiveness, delays, and shortcomings.
During the two-day session, the progress of ongoing and major cases will be analyzed, with particular attention to investigation speed, evidence collection, testimony, reporting standards, and timely disposal of cases.
Special emphasis will be placed on evaluating the skills of investigating officers, including investigation methods, evidence preservation, transparency of information, and the quality of reports in G.R. and C.R. cases.
The meeting will also review the handling and disposal of cases received from courts, the Ministry of Home Affairs, Police Headquarters, and other sources.
Unit heads will present their perspectives, highlighting key challenges within their respective units and proposing practical solutions.
Based on the discussions, CID is expected to adopt innovative strategies and strengthen internal coordination to enhance overall investigative performance.
