DHAKA, Nov 24, 2025 (BSS) - Chairman of the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Dr. Mohammad Abdul Momen today said that 100 percent people of the country don’t want corruption.

“The main task of the ACC is to create conscious against corruption by holding such public hearings,” he said this while addressing the 192nd public hearing of the ACC at Habiganj Shilpakala Academy auditorium as the chief guest.

“If we conduct a referendum today on who among us does not want corruption, hundred percent votes will be cast in favor of ‘no corruption,’ then how does corruption still take place in this country?”

He questioned and said it appears that there is a gap between what we want and what actually happens and this event is meant to bridge that gap, it is essentially an awakening programmme.

ACC Commissioner Miah Muhammad Ali Akbar Azizi addressed the function as special guest and said that service recipients have legal rights to receive the services.

‘Service providers are legally obligated to deliver those services . . . despite this legal obligation,  in many times service seekers are not getting services smoothly,” he added.

Among others, ACC Secretary Mohammad Khaled Rahim, its Director General Md Akhtar Hossain and Superintendent of Police ANM Sajedur Rahman addressed the event.

Deputy Commissioner of Habiganj Abu Hasnat Mohammad Arifin presided over the hearing where members of the public who had faced harassment or denial of services in various government offices lodged their complaints before the ACC in the presence of heads of all government departments of the district.

A total of 81 ACC-scheduled complaints were heard, three were taken up for inquiry, 60 were resolved instantly and the remaining complaints will be disposed of upon submission of reports.

The primary objective of the public hearing is to eradicate corruption by ensuring access to government services and promoting integrity, dedication, accountability, and moral values among the government officials and employees.

Prior to the event, the ACC carried out extensive promotional activities across Habiganj, including week-long microphone announcements, distribution of posters and leaflets, setting up booths to collect complaints, setting up of complaint boxes, and disseminating information through various media.

Service-providing officials and employees, people from all walks of life and journalists from electronic and print media, as well as members of Scouts and BNCC, were also present at the hearing.
