GOPALGANJ, Nov 15, 2025 (BSS) - Assistant Organizing Secretary of BNP central committee and candidate for Gopalganj-1 constituency Selimuzzaman Selim today exchanged views with local journalists on the upcoming general election at the office of Kashiani Upazila BNP here.
Upazila BNP President Md. Golam Mostafa Molya, General Secretary Sheikh Md. Selim, Office Secretary Nure Burhan Liton, member secretary of Jubo Dal Ariful Islam Pavel, Swechchhasebak Dal Convener Forkan Sharif Tito and Chhatra Dal President Amirul Islam were present, among others.
During the meeting, Selimuzzaman presented details of his political career and outlined his future plans. He also discussed the overall situation of the country and current political landscape and responded to various questions from the journalists.
Selimuzzaman said, "I contested the 2008 election from the Gopalganj-1 constituency as a candidate of the Four-Party Alliance. At that time, I witnessed that although parliamentary election was conducted normally and fairly in other districts of Bangladesh, it was not the same in Gopalganj-1.
"On the election day, I visited several polling centers and found no polling agents for the paddy-sheaf symbol.
Yet, in a free and democratic country, everyone should be able to exercise voting rights and freedom of expression.
You saw in 2018 that voting took place at night. The most recent 2024 election was also a dummy election. The upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election is very important."
Addressing the journalists, he further said, "Through your writing, you have held the pen against the authoritarian government.
You have supported this nation and for that I express my gratitude. Journalists are the conscience of the nation. In the people's movement for the establishment of democracy, I hope you will stand beside the people and our party activists.
You have many responsibilities to ensure that the upcoming election is conducted fairly and smoothly."
Expressing optimism about winning the upcoming election, Selim said, "In the upcoming national election, our leaders Begum Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman have placed their trust and confidence in me and have given me the 'paddy-sheaf' symbol as their representative. I hope to win with this symbol (party nomination).
I seek your support. I am making a commitment before you: whether one is Muslim or Hindu is not our main identity; our main identity is that we are the people of Kashiani-Muksudpur.
We will live together in harmony. To my knowledge, no innocent person in Kashiani-Muksudpur will again be victimized by false cases or harassment.
I will provide whatever assistance is necessary and will coordinate with the administration so that the people of Kashiani-Muksudpur can live together in unity and peace."
