RAJSHAHI, June 5, 2026 (BSS) - Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Rajshahi Kazi Shahidul Islam on Thursday inspected the re-excavation activities of the Dhamdhum to Bhushana Madar Khal and the Deul Beltala Bridge to Bankeshar Bridge Khal in Tanore Upazila of the district, under the Prime Minister's 180-day priority programme.
During the inspection, the Deputy Commissioner Kazi Shahidul Islam exchanged views with the Upazila Nirbahi Officer UNO, the project implementation officers, and local residents.
At that time, the Deputy Commissioner discussed the potential benefits of the canal re-excavation for agriculture, irrigation, waterlogging mitigation and environmental development, and advised the relevant authorities to remove existing obstacles to prevent erosion of the canal banks and to ensure the long-term sustainable benefits of the project.
In addition, as part of his visit to Tanore Upazila, the DC also inspected the activities of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer's Office, the Upazila Land Office, and the Municipality, and held discussions with the concerned officials.
According to the estimated target, the 3-kilometer excavation of the Dhamdhum to Bhushana Madar Khal by Barind Multipurpose Development Authority and the 5.55-kilometer excavation of the Deul Beltala Bridge to Bankeshar Bridge Khal by Local Government Engineering Department) have been completed 100 percent successfully.
Currently, tree plantation activities are underway on both banks of the two canals.
Work is ongoing to install a pontoon and pumps to supply water from the Padma River to the excavated canal.
Once the pump installation is complete, it will be possible to irrigate the 680 bighas of land from this canal using solar-powered pumps.
