KHULNA, Nov 8, 2025 (BSS) - Common people in Khulna are happy as winter vegetable prices have declined significantly due to a rise in supply in Khulna kitchen markets.
Prices of all varieties of winter vegetables have dropped by Tk 15-25 per kilogram.
During a visit to different kitchen markets in the city on Friday, prices of different vegetables are at a reduced than last week.
The early winter brinjal is now Tk 60-70 per kg, swort is selling at Tk 60 to 70 per kg, and cauliflower is now selling at Tk 100-120 per kg, down from Tk 600 only five days ago. The price of beans has fallen by half, currently selling at Tk 70-80 per kg. Cabbage is being sold at Tk 50-60 per kg, down by Tk 20. The prices of pumpkin have seen a sharp fall; it is now available at TK40-50 per kg. Tomato is selling at TK80-100 per kg, the price of spinach is Tk 25-30 per kg, and radish is selling at Tk 40 -50 per kg.
The drop in prices has brought a sense of relief among consumers who have been struggling with high living costs in recent months.
"Only a week ago, coming to the market meant spending a lot more. Now I can buy enough vegetables without worrying much," said buyer Masud Mahmud at Mistripara kitchen market.
Another customer, Farid Khan, echoed a similar sentiment: "Just a few days back, the prices were too high. Now I can fill my shopping bag spending much less."
Vegetable trader Sageer Mia said supplies have increased in recent days. "As wholesale prices have gone down, we are also selling at lower prices in retail.
The buyers are happy, and so are we. We no longer have to bring vegetables from Bogura or other districts --- most are now grown in nearby areas, reducing transport costs," he added.
Azad Hossain, a vegetable trader of Mistripara kitchen market, said prices of different varieties of early winter vegetables are decreasing due to continuous supply in the last couple of days.
"Prices would drop significantly from the first week of December after the arrival of winter vegetables in the kitchen markets," he said.
Besides, prices of chicken and different types of fish dropped significantly.
Talking to BSS, Manik, a chicken trader of the city's Sandha Bazar (Evening) kitchen market, said Broiler chickens are selling Tk 160-170 per kg, Sonali Tk 250 -Tk 260 per kg, and layer Tk 260-270 per kg.
Fish trader Barek Munsi said prices of various types of fish have declined significantly in the last three days. In different sizes, rui are selling Tk 250-300 per kg, shrimp are selling Tk 600-Tk 1200, Tilapia are selling Tk 170-200 per kg, pabda fish (butter cat fish) are selling Tk 300 Tk 350, Pangasius are selling Tk 170 -Tk 200, and different types of small fishes are selling Tk 300 to Tk 400.
Md Rafiqul Islam, Additional Director of the Department of Agriculture (DAE) in Khulna Zone, said early winter vegetables have flooded in kitchen markets.
"As supply continues to increase, prices are declining. If the weather remains favourable, prices may drop further, bringing even more relief to consumers," he added.
