DHAKA, Nov 6, 2025 (BSS) - The Department of Environment (DoE) today conducted three mobile courts in Lakshmipur, Bandarban and Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka against air-polluting brick kilns and realized Taka 24 lakh and three brick kilns were completely demolished.
The mobile courts also registered seven cases, said a DoE press release.
During the drive, chimneys and raw bricks of three brick kilns were demolished and one person was given a 15-day jail sentence.
On the same day, two mobile courts were conducted in Azimpur and Tikatuli in Dhaka metropolis and action was taken against black smoke emission from vehicles. In this drive, 40 thousand taka fines were collected through 11 cases and some drivers were warned.
The DoE has conducted a total of 1,823 mobile courts across the country from January 2 to November 6, 2025.
In these drives, a fine of over Taka 27 crore was collected through filing 4614 cases. At the same time, 496 brick kilns were completely shut down by demolishing their chimneys, 222 brick kilns were ordered to close, and 138 brick kilns' raw bricks were destroyed.
During this time, 28 illegal polythene factories were disconnected and sealed, 170 establishments were disconnected from their services and electricity, and 6 people were sentenced to various terms of imprisonment.
In addition, 11 trucks of lead or battery melting equipment were seized from 13 establishments and factories were shut down.
The DoE said that such operations are continuing to prevent air, noise, and waste pollution.
