Dr. Shamsher Ali's contribution in spreading science education will be remembered: speakers

DHAKA, Sept 20, 2025 (BSS)- Speakers at a memorial meeting today said the contribution of Dr Shamsher Ali to the spread of science education and research activities in the country will be ever remembered. 

They said while speaking in a memorial meeting and doa mahfil of eminent nuclear scientist and educationist Professor Dr M Shamsher Ali at a auditorium of National Press Club here. 

The greater Jashore Directory executive council organized the memorial meeting with Supreme Court’s High Court Division Justice Md Abdul Mannan in the chair.

Jashore University of Science and Technology Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Abdul Majid, Bangladesh Television Director General Mahabubul Alam Gora, Ibrahim Cardiac and BIRDEM Hospital Chief Adviser Professor Dr Abdur Rashid, former president of Dhaka Reporters Unity Mursalin Nomani, Executive Editor of Dhaka Mail Harun Jamil, Joint News Editor of Daily Observer Wahidul Islam, Dhaka Medical College Professor Dr. Fatema Ashraf, former general secretary of Greater Jashore Association Ashraful Alam Firoz, among others, addressed the meeting.

Hasanuzzaman Bipul, General Secretary of Jashore Directory, delivered the welcome speech at the meeting. 

A recorded speech by Nasimul Gani, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, was played at the meeting. 

The speakers at the memorial meeting called for spreading the life and works of Professor Dr M Shamsher Ali.

Senior Secretary Nasimul Ghani said Dr Shamsher Ali’s role in the expansion of education in this country will be remembered forever. The idea of Open University was introduced by him, he added. 

He said late Dr Shamsher worked for the welfare of the country until the last moment of his life.

Professor Abdul Majid said Dr M Shamsher Ali was a scientist and scholar of high caliber. His life and works should be discussed in universities, he added. 

Justice Abdul Mannan said Dr Shamsher Ali was a renowned scientist. His boundaries were not limited to the country, he added. 

His demise has caused irreparable loss to the society and the state, he said.
