DHAKA, Sept 07, 2025 (BSS) – Online business made Shirin Sultana Aruna of Rangamati a successful entrepreneur through her hard work, innovation and confidence.
Aruna started her journey by making handmade crystal bags in small scale. She eventually built her own company and started business of cashew nuts and other local products.
Aruna has sold cashew nuts worth around Taka 11.50 lakh in various districts of the country online. Now she employs 20 staffs including women.
Aruna said, “I bought crystals of Taka 595 to make bags in 2008. I used to make bags whenever I had free time after household chores. At that time, colorful and crystal bags were quite popular. When I went to school with my children, I used to carry the bags in my hand. Everyone liked the bags as those were handmade and had different beautiful shapes.”
Those bags were so popular, but it was quite difficult for her to make bags by hand and reach to the people. Later, she trained up 10 women to work at her home.
She started making jewelry for necks, ears, and hands along with the bags. Buyers started liking the jewelry.
But, some people became jealous on her success and many people started taunting her which caused embarrassing her a little bit.
“Many people started taunting me. But, I didn't feel bad for this at all. Because I knew that if I work well, one day I will be successful,” Aruna said adding “I was always patient and waited for the right time.”
After the success of her handbag project Aruna thought for working something new. She started business of clothes with the support from her family.
In 2012, Aruna opened her showroom- 'SS Handicrafts'. Even then, the critics didn’t stop their censure.
“But, I always kept myself strong and with the passage of time my critics started praising me seeing my success,” Aruna said.
In March 2020, Aruna was forced to close her showroom due to Covid pandemic. Then she thought of selling products produced in the hilly areas and switched her business of cashew nuts selling.
When she started working with cashew nuts during the Covid period, many people did not believe that cashew nuts are produced in Bangladesh.
To convince people she visited cashew nut orchards and took pictures and videos with cashew nuts on the tree and posted them on social media. This aroused people to be interested in the local product and place order for purchase.
Aruna said procurement of the material of packaging cashew nuts was also challenging as those items were not available in the area. “However, I could manage this as my confidence was stronger than the challenge.”
Sending the products by courier service was also a big challenge. Many customers wanted home delivery of the products. But the courier services did agree for home delivery at that time.
Amidst all those obstacles Aruna finally became winner and made herself a successful entrepreneur of Rangamati.
