JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, Aug 30, 2025 (BSS) - Progressive students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) today announced a five-member panel titled 'Shongshoptok Parshad' to contest in the long-awaited JUCSU polls scheduled for September 11.

JU Chhatra Union President (Emon-Tanjim faction) Jahidul Islam Emon announced the panel at a press conference held around 1:00 pm at the central Shaheed Minar premises on the campus.

As per the announcement, Emon will vie for the post of General Secretary (GS), while Sohagi Samia Jannatul Ferdous will run for Joint General Secretary (female). 

Other candidates include Syed Tanjim Ahmed for Secretary of Information Technology and Library Affairs, Sadia Imroz Ela for Assistant Secretary of Social Welfare and Human Development Affairs and Tanjil Ahmed for Secretary of Education and Research.

Speaking at the press conference, Emon said the panel carries a symbolic message of student unity and pledged to extend support to like-minded candidates contesting for other positions.

He acknowledged that the election may not fully reflect democratic practices but vowed that their future activities would be steered in a more democratic and participatory way.

The upcoming JUCSU polls being held after a long gap of 33 years since the last election in 1990.
