DHAKA, July 30, 2025 (BSS)-A court here today granted a two-day police remand to former Member of Parliament (MP) from Dhaka-7 constituency, Solaiman Selim, in connection with the killing of a student in the city's Sutrapur area during last year's July student movement.
Solaiman Selim was produced before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court from jail, where police sought a seven-day remand to interrogate him over the killing of Nadimul Hassan Elem alias Elem Al Faidi.
Metropolitan Magistrate Dilruba Afroz Tithi, on behalf of the CMM, granted a two-day remand after hearing arguments from the prosecution side.
Solaiman Selim, son of former MP Haji Md Selim of the same constituency, was arrested by police from the city's Gulshan area on November 14 last year.
According to the prosecution, a group of leaders and activists of the Awami League and its front organizations attacked an anti-discrimination student rally between Shaheed Suhrawardy College and Kobi Nazrul College on July 29 last year.
During the indiscriminate firing, Nadimul Hassan Elem alias Elem Al Faidi, a student of Sheikh Borhan Uddin Post Graduate College, was shot and fell on the street. He was immediately taken to Sir Salimullah Medical College and Mitford Hospital, where the attending doctor declared him dead.
A case was filed with Sutrapur Police Station in this connection on August 22 last year, where former MP Solaiman Selim was made accused number 10.
