Eid holiday rush turns Cox’s Bazar into a tourist hotspot

COX’S BAZAR, May 29, 2026 (BSS) - The tourist town of Cox’s Bazar has turned into a festive destination during the long Eid-ul-Azha holidays.

Travel enthusiasts are enjoying fun, excitement, and the salty seawater of the sea beach. The shoreline has become a gathering place for people of all ages. Lifeguards and Tourist Police are working round the clock to ensure the safety of the visitors.

At around 3pm today at Sugandha Point, thousands of tourists were seen enjoying the sea waves as some were bathing in the sea while others were enjoying the natural beauty of the beach with their families.

Not only sea bathing, but the sand dunes, Kitkot, (iconic shaded beach chair and umbrella setups dotting the shoreline) and other entertainment spots are also filled with a festive atmosphere.

With the long Eid vacation, the entire beach area has become lively with tourists arriving from different parts of the country. The joy of children and teenagers was especially noticeable.

Fazle Hasan Omar, a tourist from the capital’s Mohammadpur area, said, “I really like the sea. I’m having a lot of fun playing in the sand. I’m very happy to spend time at the beach with my brothers and sisters during the Eid holidays.”

Hosna Hurain from Cumilla said in the busy city life, people rarely get the chance to enjoy nature closely. That is why they came to Cox’s Bazar with family during Eid holidays, she said adding that they are greatly enjoying the roaring sea, cool breeze, pleasant weather, and various tourist attractions.

Another tourist Lutfa Begum said she especially enjoys horse riding on the beach and playing in the water. She was most impressed by the joyful atmosphere of the beach.

To prevent any harassment or unwanted incidents among the crowd, the Tourist Police remain active. At the same time, lifeguards have established a three-tier security system to ensure safe swimming in the rough sea.

Senior lifeguard worker Zainal Abedin Bhutto of the Sea-Safe Lifeguard Organization told BSS that tourist arrivals at Cox’s Bazar beach have already increased due to long Eid-ul-Azha holidays and are expected to rise further in the coming days even after holidays.

However, the sea is currently very rough with large and mighty waves. In this situation, lifeguards are maintaining the highest level of alert to ensure tourists’ safety, he said.

Zainul said that security measures have been strengthened in three beach point areas with a three-tier system.

Continuous monitoring is being conducted from watchtowers, while patrol teams are carrying out regular patrols, he said adding that additional lifeguards with rescue boards have been deployed in areas where water conditions are risky.

He also added that awareness activities are being carried out in beach areas without lifeguard services so that tourists choose safer areas where lifeguard services are available.

Sub-Inspector Monirul Islam of the Cox’s Bazar Tourist Police said that comprehensive preparations were taken to ensure the safety of tourists visiting during Eid-ul-Azha.

Adequate numbers of police personnel were deployed at Laboni, Kolatoli, and Sugandha points of the beach.

He said along with special tourist squads, Quick Response Teams (QRT), mobile teams, and standby teams are working to ensure tourist safety. All units are prepared to respond immediately in case of any emergency situation, he said.

He further said that the Tourist Police are maintaining maximum vigilance to ensure safe and uninterrupted travel for tourists.

Concerned officials believe that the tourist rush in Cox’s Bazar will continue for the next several days due to the extended Eid holidays.

Besides the sea beach, tourists are also visiting various tourist attractions and entertainment centered  in Cox’s Bazar district.
