DHAKA, May 29, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury today called upon students to play an active role in protecting the environment and contributing to social development.
He made the remarks while addressing a seminar and tree plantation programme organised by the Dhaka University Students' Association, Nandail, in Mymensingh’s Nandail upazila.
Stressing the importance of youth engagement, the state minister said young people have a vital role to play in building a responsible and environmentally conscious society.
During his daylong visit to Nandail, Yasser Khan Choudhury took part in several social, religious and welfare programmes.
He attended a janaza in Moazzempur area. After the funeral prayers, he expressed sympathy to the bereaved family.
The state minister also distributed scholarships among meritorious students at an annual scholarship awarding ceremony at Brahmaputra School and College in Mymensingh.
Speaking at the event, he highlighted various government initiatives aimed at improving education and urged students to dedicate themselves to the country’s development.
Later, he visited storm-hit areas in Betagair Union and distributed corrugated sheets, cash assistance and dry food among affected families.
He assured continued support for the victims and instructed the concerned authorities to ensure their quick rehabilitation.
Throughout the day, Yasser Khan Choudhury visited different parts of the upazila and exchanged views with local residents on development and public welfare issues.
He also joined Juma prayers at Madhupur Bazar Central Jame Mosque, where he informed worshippers about various development activities undertaken by the government.
At another programme, the state minister handed over allocation letters from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund to representatives of different social and religious institutions.
