DHAKA, June 16, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury today said the party will continue to move forward in line with the path of democracy.

"The country will move forward, imbued with the sacrifices made by the people in the long-standing movement and struggle to restore democracy," he told reporters at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport upon his return from London.

Khasru said the people of the country have been deprived of their voting rights for the past 20 years, and the new generation has not had the opportunity to vote either. 

"That is why there is a growing demand for elections as soon as possible. This was the main goal of our movement," he added.
 
In response to a question about trials and reforms, the BNP leader said reforms depend on consensus. "It should not take more than one to one-and-a-half months to reach a consensus," he noted.
 
Describing the trial process as ongoing and entirely dependent on the judiciary, Khasru said, "It is the judiciary's responsibility to conduct trials, and the process of bringing criminals to book is part of that system."
 
He emphasized that elections are the only way to restore the democratic, political, and constitutional rights of the people.
 
Regarding allegations involving Jamaat and the Nationalist Consensus Party (NCP), he said, "If we believe in democracy, everyone should have the right to express their opinion. That is the true strength of democracy-everyone having the rights to speak. We must move forward with that spirit."
 
"We can make decisions through consensus, and that is better for the nation," he added. "So, we will try to reach decisions based on mutual agreement wherever possible."
 
He expressed hope that the interim government will ensure neutrality in the upcoming elections.
