NETRAKONA, June 1, 2025 (BSS) – A total of 1,34,077 sacrificial animals are available in 10 upazila of the district for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha this year.

This year, the demand for cattle in the district has been set at 1,06,274 and 1,34,077  cattle have been prepared. The additional 27,977 animals will be sent to the other districts of the country including Dhaka, Chattogram and Sylhet.

Of the total animal, 89,184 cows, 39,274 goats, 5,400 sheep and 219 buffaloes have been prepared.

Livestock farmers of the district are busy feeding and caring for their cows as they have prepared the sacrificial animals in a completely natural way.

The District Animal Resources Department said that there are about 12,665 farmers in the 10 upazilas of the district.

However, farmers are worried about getting fair price due to the increase of cow feed prices and Indian cows.

Jaglul Pasha, a young entrepreneur from Nishchintapur in Sadar upazila, said that he has 30 indigenous bulls of various sizes in his farm. He has fattened these cows using indigenous methods with completely natural food.

There is a huge demand for indigenous cattle in the market, and many people are coming to his farm to see the cows. He is expecting good prices in the market this year as the import of cattle from India is stopped.

This year, a total of 217 permanent and temporary sacrificial cattle markets will be set up in 10 upazilas of the district.

A sacrificial cattle market is being set up for the first time in haor upazila Kaliajhuri. One of the biggest cattle markets in haor area is Dewan Bazar in Madan upazila of the district and every Thursday, farmers sell their cattle in this market. Cow wholesalers buy them at cheap prices from this market and sell them at high prices in different parts of the country.

District Livestock Officer Dr. Mohammad Shahidullah said this year, there are enough sacrificial animals in the district compared to the demand.
