DHAKA, Dec 18, 2025 (BSS) - December is the month of victory, and amid an atmosphere steeped in history, memory and identity, the ongoing Bijoy Boi Mela at the Bangla Academy premises is witnessing a steady increase in readers and visitors every day. 

Notably, the active participation of young readers has infused new energy into the fairgrounds. Groups of youths crowding book stalls and searching eagerly for their favourite titles have given the fair a fresh vibrancy. 

On the ninth day of the Bijoy Boi Mela, a visit to the venue revealed that the presence of young people increases significantly as evening approaches.

Their interest is comparatively higher in stalls featuring books on history, the Liberation War, politics, essays and research.

Some are purchasing books using prepared lists, while others move from one stall to another in search of new titles. Many young visitors can be seen flipping through pages to assess content, while others engage in lively discussions about books with friends.

Speaking at the fair, Jagannath University student Abdullah Al Mamun said, "Bijoy Boi Mela is not just a place to buy books. Visiting the fair gives us an opportunity to learn about the Liberation War and history in new ways. We can explore many unknown subjects beyond our textbooks, which enrich our thinking."

Dhaka University student Abir Raihan said that every year they usually get to experience only the Amar Ekushey Book Fair, and Bijoy Boi Mela is a welcome new addition. He expressed hope that the fair will continue in the coming years.

He added that many writers focus on books centred on the Amar Ekushey Book Fair, and continuation of the Bijoy Boi Mela would further encourage writers to produce more works on the history of the nation's struggles.

The book fair, which began on December 10, will continue until December 22. It features a total of 170 stalls with the participation of 140 leading publishing houses of the country. On working days, the fair remains open from 2:30 pm to 9:00 pm, while on holidays it is open from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm.
