Ex-MP Milon, 8 others held in city

DHAKA, May 6, 2025 (BSS) - Nine Leaders and activists of Awami League (AL) 
and its front organisations including former lawmaker from Bagherhat-4 
constituency Amirul Islam Milon arrested from the city in the last 24 hours.

The other individuals were identified as 63 no ward former councilor Shafiqul 
Islam Dilu, 72, Shah Ali Thana AL vice-president Md Taj Uddin, 35, Bangshal 
Thana AL publicity secretary Md Imran Halder, 45, Pallabi Thana Jubo League 
vice-president Md Sarwar Jahan Mithu, 42, Ramna Thana Swechhasebak League 
general secretary Ismail Hossain Prodhania, 48, Chapainawabganj Sadar 
Municipality chairman and vice-president of Sadar Upazila AL Md Mukhlesur 
Rahman, 72, 62 no ward former president of banned Bangladesh Chhatra League 
(BCL) Tanvir Ahmed Ontu, 35, and joint general secretary of Jagannath Hall 
unit of Dhaka University (DU) Oritro Nandi, 27. 

Separate teams of the Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested them from 
different parts of the capital city as part of the intensified drives to 
capture those involved in destabilising the country by bringing out flash 
processions.

Deputy Commissioner of the DB (media and public relations) Muhammad Talebur 
Rahman confirmed the arrests.
 
Of the arrestees, DB personnel arrested former lawmaker Amirul Islam Milon 
from Indira Road in the city’s Farmgate area around 11:45 on Monday while 
former ward councilor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Shafiqul Islam 
Dilu from Dhanmondi area on Monday evening, he added. 
 
The arrestees are accused in multiple July uprising cases.
