DHAKA, Aug 23, 2026 (BSS) - Various government activities are underway to tackle natural disasters, including flash floods, landslides and hill collapses, in the southeastern and northeastern districts of the country.
The information was provided in reports sent by district and upazila information offices under the Mass Communication Department of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and regional offices of the Press Information Department, a PID press release said here today.
The reports said the concerned offices and agencies are continuing public awareness activities in the affected areas amid the ongoing flash floods, landslides, hill collapses and other natural disasters.
According to the latest report from the Chattogram Information Office, 15 upazilas of the district and Chattogram city have been inundated by floods.
The six worst-affected upazilas are Satkania, Banshkhali, Lohagara, Chandanaish, Boalkhali and Sandwip.
It also said public awareness campaigns are continuing during and after the floods in Chattogram.
According to the latest report from the Habiganj Information Office, the flood situation in all upazilas of the district has returned to normal. Currently, there are no families stranded by floodwaters.
There have been no casualties and no hill collapse or landslide has occurred in the district. The district received 5 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours. The District Information Office, Habiganj, is continuing its awareness campaigns.
According to the latest report from the Khagrachhari Information Office, 103 mm of rainfall was recorded over three consecutive hours on the night of August 22 due to a cloudburst.
As a result, rising water levels in the Feni River inundated low-lying areas of Khagrachhari Sadar, including Ganjpara, Muslim Para, Mehedibag, Shantinagar, Khbongporia and Shabdomia Para.
Besides, rising water levels in the Maini River inundated various areas of Kobakhali, Mebung and Boalkhali unions in Dighinala upazila.
Communications have been disrupted as the Dighinala-Sajek and Dighinala-Mebung roads were inundated. Houses were also submerged due to heavy rainfall.
People in the affected areas took shelter in evacuation centres. Agriculture, fisheries and livestock suffered damage due to the rain.
However, as river water levels have started to recede, floodwaters are draining from the inundated areas.
Heavy rain also occurred for some time on the evening of August 22. During this period, two people died from lightning strikes in Mahalchhari upazila and one in Khagrachhari Sadar upazila. There was no rain this morning, however.
According to the latest report from the Cox's Bazar Information Office, the overall flood situation has improved. The district's disaster situation is currently normal.
The district received 2 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours. Loudspeaker announcements carrying urgent messages to prevent health risks and other hazards during the post-flood period are continuing.

The flash floods damaged crops on 57 hectares of land in Moulvibazar district. The District Information Office, Moulvibazar, is continuing public awareness campaigns during and after the floods.
