JOYPURHAT, Aug 23, 2026 (BSS) - Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Husain today said the government has planned to launch ‘health hubs’ in every union and ‘health welfare centres’ at the ward level to ensure healthcare services for people in remote areas.
“The grassroots health infrastructure is being revamped. The government has planned to launch a ‘health hub’ in every union and one ‘health wellbeing centre’ for every three wards,” he said.
He said this after inspecting Joypurhat General Hospital this afternoon.
Sakhawat said health and family planning services would be available under one roof of the health hubs. Doctors would be posted there, he added.
Besides, health workers would visit households to check blood pressure and diabetes and conduct early detection of breast and cervical cancers, he said.
Referring to shortage of teachers at medical colleges and ICUs, he said teachers would be recruited and trained quickly to reopen non-operational ICUs and launch new medical colleges.
He warned that negligence in duties would not be tolerated for improvements in the quality of services.
During the hospital visit, Deputy Commissioner Md. Al Mamun Mia, Civil Surgeon Dr. Al Mamun, Superintendent of Joypurhat 400-Bed Hospital Dr. Rashed Mubarak Jewel, among others, were present.
