Persons responsible in death of six newborns will not be spared: Sakhawat

DHAKA, June 3, 2026 (BSS) - Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain today said no one responsible in the death of six newborns at Ad-Din Hospital will be spared.

He said the accused gets advantage if a case is filed without an autopsy but they will not be able to take any benefit in the case of the death of six newborns in this hospital. 

There will be no relief in this crime, he told reporters at his Secretariat office here.

Stating that all 492 upazila health complexes will be converted to 100-bed hospitals from 50-bed ones, the health minister said within the next six months, five children's hospitals will be set up in Khulna, Barishal, Rangpur, Rajshahi divisions and greater Cumilla areas, while each hospital will have one ICU. 

A medical building of Dhaka University will be built spending Taka 1100 crore, he added.

Sakhawat Husain also informed that China-Bangladesh will jointly build five hospitals with 1,000 beds for women. 

The government is working to make public health easier by checking corruption, he said.
The heath minister said door-to-door medical services will be provided for all in 6-10 upazilas of the country on a pilot basis. The programme will be expanded throughout the country later, he said.

Noting that preparations are on to take immediate action to prevent dengue, he said work is going on to prevent both measles and dengue. 

 10 percent beds will be allocated in each private hospital for dengue patients,  the minister said.
