NARSINGDI, Sept 1, 2026 (BSS) -Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Dr

Abdul Moyeen Khan today said the BNP is committed to ensuring free, fair and impartial elections

in the country.

"The Prime Minister will present the people of the country with a commendable local government

election. Through free and fair elections, local government institutions-from union parishads to

district councils, municipalities, city corporations and upazila parishads-will be strengthened,"

he said.

Moyeen Khan made the remarks while addressing a discussion meeting as the chief guest at the

Modern Multipurpose Auditorium in Palash upazila this evening, marking the 48th founding

anniversary of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

The minister alleged that the last four elections held under the Awami League were "rigged" and

that even votes of deceased people were cast in favour of the party.

"Those who did not cast their votes also had their votes cast in favour of the Awami League," he

said.

The LGRD minister said the BNP does not do politics for power but works for the welfare of the

people.

He said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is pursuing politics by maintaining friendly relations with

all countries of the world, adding that the people of Bangladesh would benefit from the outcome

of this policy.

Palash Upazila BNP President Abdus Sattar presided over the meeting.

Among others, Upazila BNP General Secretary Saiful Haque, Joint Secretary Bahauddin Bhuiyan

Milton, Ghorashal Pourashava BNP President Alam Molla, General Secretary Delwar Hossain and

Sramik Dal President Alamin Bhuiyan addressed the meeting.
