LALMONIRHAT, Sept 5, 2026 (BSS) - Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu MP has directed the authorities concerned to operate mobile courts to shut coaching centres that run during school hours.

"No coaching centre can operate during school hours. If the order is violated, necessary legal action will be taken and, if required, coaching activities will be stopped through mobile courts," he said.

The minister made the remarks at a view-exchange meeting with heads and teachers of secondary schools in Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila at the Church of God Mission Campus in the city on Saturday afternoon.

Dulu said many students were becoming overly dependent on coaching centres instead of studying properly at school. He noted that some students who struggle to pay even small school fees spend hundreds of taka on coaching.

"The notion that good results can be achieved only through coaching must be changed," he said.

He called for creating a better learning environment in schools, including installing CCTV cameras and expanding opportunities for recreation and co-curricular activities. He also suggested educational tours to help students gain practical knowledge.

Addressing teachers, Dulu stressed the importance of updating their knowledge and skills and ensuring quality classroom teaching.

"An educational environment should be created so that students can gain more knowledge and skills from school than from coaching," he said.

He warned that action would be taken against teachers if allegations of neglecting school duties in favour of coaching centres were substantiated.

The minister also said students who fail their selection examinations should not be allowed to fill out SSC examination forms. He suggested recording awareness programmes on video, when necessary, to document that students had been informed of relevant instructions beforehand.

Dulu expressed hope that proper implementation of the initiatives would bring positive changes in school results within one to two years.

He also urged teachers to help students develop religious and moral values, humanity and mutual respect, saying education should focus not only on textbooks but also on building responsible and compassionate individuals.

Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Rashedul Haque, District Council Administrator AKM Mominul Haque, Additional Deputy Commissioner Russell Mia, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Manonita Das, District Education Officer Rukhsana Parvin, District BNP Joint General Secretary ABM Faruk Siddique, and head teachers and assistant teachers from various secondary schools attended the meeting.
