DHAKA, Sept 5, 2026 (BSS) – Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat today directed the administration to take stringent measures to completely eradicate drugs from Dewanganj upazila of Jamalpur, saying there would be no compromise on the issue.

“Drugs must be completely eradicated from Dewanganj upazila. There will be no compromise whatsoever when it comes to drugs,” he said.

The minister made the remarks while addressing a view-exchange meeting on the overall law and order situation and development activities of the upazila at the Dewanganj Upazila Parishad conference room, said a ministry’s press release here.

He instructed the local administration to take all necessary and effective measures to curb drug abuse and eliminate the menace from the upazila.

Millat said building a healthy and harmonious society would not be possible unless drugs were eradicated, while a prosperous country could not be built without a healthy society.

He called upon the administration, public representatives, political leaders and activists, and people from all walks of life to work together to make anti-drug efforts successful.

Referring to the prevailing electricity and gas shortages, the minister said the problems were the result of what he described as the deposed Awami League government's unplanned activities.

He, however, said the incumbent government was working effectively to address the shortages.

Millat expressed optimism that the country would be able to overcome the electricity and gas crises under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

He also urged party leaders and activists to remain vigilant against any conspiracy targeting the incumbent government.

Officials of the upazila administration and leaders and activists of Dewanganj Upazila BNP, among others, attended the meeting.
