RANGPUR, Aug 29, 2026 (BSS) - Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu, MP, has called for holding elections in various institutions and organizations in a fair, acceptable and festive atmosphere.
"Elections should not be merely a political or organizational formality; they should provide people with a free and democratic opportunity to express their opinions," he said.
The minister made the remarks while briefing journalists after attending the 34th Annual General Meeting and Executive Board Election 2026-28 of the Dr Selima Diabetic and General Hospital Association in Lalmonirhat town on Saturday afternoon, according to a press release from the Rangpur Regional PID Office.
Dulu said the presidential election was held after 36 years and expressed hope that elections to different institutions and organizations would also be conducted fairly with the participation of all members.
He said elections had recently been held at the Lalmonirhat Chamber and the Railway, while the election of the Dr Selima Diabetic and General Hospital Association was held on Saturday.
"We want these elections to be held in a festive atmosphere with the participation of all," he said.
The minister said fair and participatory elections would strengthen institutions and make them more people-oriented by allowing members to freely choose their preferred candidates.
Lalmonirhat District Council Administrator AKM Mominul Haque and political leaders were present at the briefing.
Earlier, Dulu inaugurated road development works on the Air Khamar Primary School-Kalakhawa Ghat and Selim Nagar-Basuria Government Primary School routes in Lalmonirhat district.
