DHAKA, Aug 24, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC) member Professor Dr Abdullah-Al-Mamun today said initiative has been taken to make the madrasah education curriculum up-to-date and job-market-oriented.

"To ensure employment for madrasah students, enhance their skills and create job opportunities at home and abroad, a work plan would be finalized. Besides, steps would be taken for its implementation within this month," he said at a workshop.

The workshop titled “Improving the Quality of Higher Education and Employment in Madrasahs” was organised by Islamic Arabic University to improve the quality of madrasah education and employment opportunities.

Speaking as chief guest at the workshop, Professor Dr Abdullah-Al-Mamun said one of the major objectives of various government initiatives for madrasah students is to make the curriculum job-market-oriented, ensure employment and develop students’ skills. 

"Through these initiatives, the government wants to create opportunities for madrasah students to work both at home and abroad," he added.

"Madrasah students constitute a significant part of the government’s development vision. The previous government had placed emphasis on infrastructural development, while the present government is focusing on human resource development," he added.

He noted that developing madrasah students and changing their fortunes is part of the government’s electoral commitment.

UGC member Professor Dr Mamun said the government wants to reduce the gap in skills and opportunities that has emerged between madrasah students and students of other streams of education.

He said a comprehensive bottom-up approach had been adopted to modernize the curriculum. 

Islamic Arabic University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Abu Zafar Khan chaired the event.

 University Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr Mohammad Shahidul Islam, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr Mohammad Yunus Hindi and others concerned attended the workshop as special guests.

The workshop also discussed providing madrasah students with opportunities to learn a third language and involving them in skill-development training programmes initiated by the UGC.
