RAJSHAHI, Aug 24, 2026 (BSS) - National Fisheries Week 2026 was observed at Rajshahi University (RU) today with fish fry release, a colorful rally and a discussion.

The RU Fisheries Association and the Department of Fisheries jointly organised the programme.

At 9:30am, Pro Vice-Chancellor (admin) Prof Abdul Alim and Pro Vice-Chancellor (academic) Prof Mamunur Rashid released fish fry at the university's research pond adjacent to Tutbagan.

Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries Professor Mostafizur Rahman Mondal, Chairman of the Department of Fisheries Professor Istiak Hossain, Student Adviser Professor A H M Khurshid Alam and teachers and students of the department were present.

Later, a rally, joined by the pro vice-chancellors, the faculty dean, department chairman, student adviser, teachers, students, researchers and other concerned people, paraded around the campus.

A discussion was held at the Department of Fisheries at noon with Prof Istiak Hossain in the chair. Prof Mostafizur Rahman Mondal attended the discussion as chief guest. Prof Akhtar Hossain presented the keynote paper.
