DHAKA, Aug 15, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Road Transport and Bridges and Railways Habibur Rashid Habib today said that no one in the BNP would be spared if he or she gets involved in crimes and warned that organizational action would be taken against party leaders and activists who shelter or patronize criminals.
"Any activity that harms people or the area will not be tolerated. Even if it is politically damaging, there would be no compromise with the criminals," he said.
The state minister made the remarks at a tree plantation and fish fry release programme at the Sri Sri Bordeshwari Kalimata Temple ground in the Rajarbagh-Sabujbagh area of the capital.
About drug abuse and other criminal activities, he said people involved in drug abuse, terrorism, and extortion must be brought under the law regardless of their political identity.
"Even if anyone from the BNP is involved in such crimes, they will not be spared. Organizational action will also be taken against party leaders and activists who shelter or patronize criminals," Habibur Rashid added.
Drawing the administration's attention, he said, "Do not consider anyone's political identity while arresting people involved in drugs abuse. Whoever they are, arrest them and send them to court. We want them punished."
Merely blaming the administration would not be enough, he said, adding, "Everyone must unite against drug Abuse. The BNP's affiliated organizations must also play a united role in this regard."
Stating that some people shelter and patronize individuals involved in illegal activities for personal interests because of internal factionalism within the party, the state minister warned such individuals.
He said that the government has taken the strongest position against terrorism, extortion, and drugs. "If any leader shelters or patronizes criminals for personal interests, they will be identified. Organizational and legal action will be taken against them," he added.
Regarding development in his constituency, Habibur Rashid said people elected the current government through their votes. Therefore, their expectations and demands from the government are high.
Such demands are natural, he said, adding that development work is underway to meet people's demands.
The state ministry said a road in Maniknagar was tendered and work began after Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator valiant freedom fighter Md Abdus Salam took charge.
Work has also begun on the road from Dhalpur-Maniknagar to Dhalpur Mugda Hospital and the road beside the hospital, he said, adding, work on the Basabo-Madertek road is also underway.
"All three of these projects are currently underway. The development activities that people are demanding are being implemented," Habibur Rashid said.
Praising DSCC Administrator Abdus Salam's initiatives, he said, "The city corporation faces budgetary constraints. Despite this, Salam Bhai is making considerable efforts for the development of the area."
"Local residents do not demand much. They want to travel safely on roads, have functioning streetlights, and ensure proper waste removal," he added.
Warning party leaders and activists against negligence in waste management, Habibur Rashid said organizational action would be taken for any negligence involving waste management.
Particularly in Ward No. 5, he directed the DSCC administrator to take legal action under the City Corporation Act against anyone found negligent in waste management or collecting excessive fees.
Noting that the current government was elected by the people's votes, the state minister said the government remains accountable to the people. Everyone must play a responsible role in building a Bangladesh free from terrorism, extortion, and drugs, he added.
DSCC Administrator Abdus Salam, President of the Bordeshwari Kalimata Temple and Cremation Ground Management Committee Babu Paban Das and General Secretary Babu Guru Das, and local BNP leaders and activists were present at the event.
