DHAKA, Aug 13, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) and Ambassador Dr Irene Zubaida Khan today paid a courtesy call on Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon at the minister's office in the Bangladesh Secretariat here, according to an official handout.

During the meeting, emphasis was laid on projecting Bangladesh's positive image abroad and appropriately presenting Bangladesh's position and achievements in the international arena.

The issues of appropriately highlighting Bangladesh's activities and the various programmes of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in the international media on the occasion of the Prime Minister's participation in the upcoming session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) were discussed.

At the meeting, they exchanged views on various aspects of media management of the Prime Minister's visit, highlighting Bangladesh's position and priorities in the international media, and presenting Bangladesh's positive image to the global communities.

Irene Khan sought the cooperation of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in projecting Bangladesh's positive image abroad while the minister assured her of necessary cooperation in this regard.

During the meeting, both of them identified the spread of propaganda and misleading information through various digital platforms, including social media, as a major challenge and matter of concern.

They held detailed discussions on effective communication strategies to counter such propaganda and ensuring the rapid flow of information, presenting accurate information, and measures to strengthen Bangladesh's position on digital platforms.

At that time, the information minister highlighted the activities undertaken by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in this regard.

He emphasised the need for the government, media and all concerned parties to work in a coordinated manner to effectively counter disinformation and misleading information.

Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting were present at the meeting.
