DHAKA, Aug 12, 2026 (BSS) - The government has decided to keep shopping
malls, markets and shops across the country open from 11am to 8pm.

At the same time, all illuminated billboards have been asked to be switched
off by 7pm, while all forms of decorative lighting have also been prohibited.

As part of the government measures to save electricity, the power division
took the decision, which will come into effect from today, according to a
ministry statement.

The previous decision, effective from June 11, allowed shopping malls,
markets and shops to remain open until 9pm, but under the new decision, the
closing time has been reduced by one hour to 8pm.

However, food shops, hospitals, pharmacies and emergency services will remain
exclude the purview of the decision, the ministry statement said.

The authorities concerned have been instructed to take necessary measures to
ensure the government decision.
