July Mass Uprising Day observed at KAU

KHULNA, Aug 6, 2026 (BSS) - Khulna Agricultural University (KAU) observed July Mass Uprising Day on Wednesday with due solemnity through a series of programmes at its Temporary Campus-1, honouring the martyrs of the July uprising.

The day's observance began with the hoisting of the national flag at sunrise, followed by essay writing, recitation and drawing competitions. Teachers, students, officers and employees later paid tribute to the martyrs by placing wreaths at the July Memorial Monument.

Special prayers were offered at a nearby mosque and orphanage, while members of the Hindu community arranged prayers at a temple, seeking eternal peace for those who lost their lives in the July uprising and the speedy recovery of the injured.

A discussion meeting was held with Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Md. Asaduzzaman Sarkar as the chief guest in the afternoon. 

Treasurer Prof Dr. Shamim Ahamed Kamal Uddin Khan, Acting Registrar Rezaul Islam and July warrior Hasib Rahman Abik, who lost an eye during the uprising, attended the event, among others.

Addressing the discussion, the VC paid glowing tributes to the martyrs, saying their sacrifices would remain an enduring chapter in the nation's history. 

He stressed the need to safeguard the freedom, democracy and right to free expression achieved through their sacrifices by remaining united against fascism.

The observance concluded with a prize-giving ceremony for winners of the competitions, a tree plantation programme on the campus, and a courtesy meeting with family members of the July martyrs.
