July Mass Uprising Day observed in Istanbul

DHAKA, Aug 06, 2026 (BSS)- Bangladesh Consulate General in Istanbul has observed July Mass Uprising Day with due solemnity, commemorating the sacrifices of the martyrs and reaffirming the ideals of democracy, justice and national unity.

The observance began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by reading the messages from the President and the Prime Minister marking the occasion, according to a press release received here today.

A documentary on the July Mass Uprising was also screened.

The programme held on Wednesday, was attended by Bangladeshi professionals residing in Istanbul, members of the Bangladeshi community, officials and staff of the Consulate General and their family members.

A discussion on the significance of the day was later held with the participation of the members of Bangladeshi community.

Addressing the programme, Consul General Muhammad Mizanur Rahman paid tribute to the martyrs of the July Mass Uprising and prayed for the eternal peace of their departed souls.

He said the July Mass Uprising would remain a glorious chapter in Bangladesh's history for advancing the struggle to establish people's rights, ensure justice and build a society free from discrimination.

The consul general highly praised the contribution and sacrifices of the younger generation during the uprising and also highlighted the role played by Bangladeshi expatriates during the July-August movement.

Expressing optimism, he said the sacrifices of the martyrs would continue to inspire future generations with patriotism, a sense of responsibility and democratic values.

During the open discussion, members of the Bangladeshi community reflected on the significance of the July Mass Uprising and shared memories of their participation in the movement.

They stressed the importance of upholding the spirit of the uprising by promoting national unity, democratic values, social harmony and contributing to the country's continued development from their respective positions.

The speakers also pledged to work collectively to project Bangladesh's positive image, true history of the July Mass Uprising and sacrifices of the martyrs before the international community.

The programme concluded with a special prayer seeking eternal peace for the souls of the martyrs.
