DHAKA, Aug 4, 2026 (BSS) - A seven-member delegation from China's Fudan University, led by Vice President Dr. Chen Zhimin today paid a courtesy call on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam at his office.
The delegation included Prof. Ping Zhang, Prof. Yin Zhiguang and Prof. Zheng Yu of Fudan University.
Director of the Centre for China Studies at DU Prof. Dr. Md. Rakibul Hoque and Director of the Confucius Institute at DU Dr. Yang Hui were also present.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed prospects for launching dual-degree programmes in artificial intelligence (AI) between Dhaka University and Fudan University.
Dr. Chen expressed Fudan University's interest in supporting visiting fellowships for DU faculty members to strengthen academic activities and research on AI governance.
The meeting also focused on expanding collaboration through joint research and publications, alongside exchange programmes for teachers, researchers and students.
Both sides underscored the importance of strengthening communication, knowledge-sharing and research cooperation to improve the quality of higher education and agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalise the partnership at the earliest opportunity.
DU VC Prof. Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam expressed keen interest in broadening academic and research collaboration with Fudan University to create greater learning and research opportunities for young scholars.
Highlighting the long-standing friendship between Bangladesh and China, he noted that a large number of Bangladeshi students pursue higher education in China every year.
The DU Vice-Chancellor expressed optimism that enhanced cooperation in education and research would further deepen bilateral relations between the two countries.
He also sought Fudan University's support in expanding collaborative academic programmes and increasing scholarship opportunities for DU students pursuing higher studies at the Chinese university.
