DHAKA, July 16, 2026 (BSS) - The Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested Major (Retd) Md. Mozaffar Hossain in connection with the killing of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.

DMP Additional Commissioner (DB) Md. Shafiqul Islam today confirmed it to BSS, saying that he (Mozaffar) was arrested from the capital's DOHS area around midnight on Wednesday.

Replying to a query, Islam said Mozaffar Hossain had remained absconding for the last 45 years.

 On the early hours of May 30, 1981, a group of renegade army officers attacked the Chattogram Circuit House and killed the then President Ziaur Rahman.
