DHAKA, June 16, 2026 (BSS) – The government has emphasized to begin demand-driven technical, vocational education and training programmes for creating employment opportunities in the country.
“Demand-driven technical and vocational education and training programmes will be expanded for employment generation,” Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said in his budget speech at the Jatiya Sangsad last Thursday.
He said that finance will be provided for young entrepreneurs to ensure greater access, which will also enhance creation of employment opportunities for women and marginalized groups.
“Guided by the principle -“We Will Work and Will Build the Country Together-” employment generation across various sectors constitutes one of the central pillars of the government’s economic recovery and inclusive growth strategy,” he said.
According to budget document, the trend has been evident in Bangladesh’s labour market in recent years.
Although the contributions of the industrial and services sectors to national value added have increased over the past decade, their capacity to generate employment has not expanded at the desired pace, it mentioned.
The government gave the highest priority on expanding employment opportunities in industry, services, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), information technology, and modern agro-based industries.
In addition, productive investment, expansion of export-oriented industries, and development of a skilled workforce will help restore structural balance in the labour market over the medium term.
In this connection, he said greater investment in the creative economy will create new avenues for employment and entrepreneurship.
“With coordinated initiatives, the government aimed to build a productive, skilled, and sustainable employment-based economy over the long term, which will raise income, reduce poverty, and support a more dynamic and inclusive pattern of economic growth,” the document added.
The government has attached especial importance to the creative economy and seek to develop it as an important source of employment, entrepreneurship, and economic growth.
