DHAKA, June 15, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Textiles and Jute Md Shariful Alam today said that the proposed national budget for fiscal year 2026-27 has 
not triggered any increase in the prices of essential commodities, attributing the stability to the government's consumer-friendly fiscal 
measures.

"The proposed budget, amounting to Taka 9.38 lakh crore, was designed with public welfare in mind and includes measures aimed at easing inflationary 
pressure on ordinary people," he said.

The minister made the remarks after conducting a surprise inspection of Karwan Bazar in the capital this afternoon to assess the market situation and 
the supply of daily necessities following the announcement of the national budget.

During the visit, Shariful exchanged views with wholesale and retail traders and spoke with consumers to assess the overall market condition. 

He observed that, unlike previous years, there has been no noticeable post-budget volatility in the prices of essential goods.

"Through this sudden visit, we have assessed the overall market dynamics, and it is evident that the supply system is functioning effectively," he said.

He said the budget has increased allocations for social safety net programmes and the education sector, while tax exemptions on several essential 
commodities have been introduced to keep prices affordable for consumers.

The state minister said the government is closely monitoring the market to ensure that the benefits of these tax exemptions are passed on to consumers 
through lower retail prices.

To maintain market stability, he said, the government has adopted a coordinated monitoring mechanism involving the Ministry of Commerce, the 
Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP), and district and upazila administrations across the country.

Warning against any attempt to manipulate the market, Shariful Alam said the government remains vigilant and will not tolerate unjustified price hikes.

He instructed the relevant authorities to take immediate and stringent legal action against any individual or group found creating artificial shortages or 
increasing prices without valid reasons.

Secretary (Routine Charge) of the Ministry of Commerce Md Abdur Rahim Khan and Acting Director General of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights 
Protection (DNCRP) Sebastian Rema accompanied the minister during the inspection.

Senior officials from the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Textiles and Jute were also present.
