DHAKA, April 9, 2026 (BSS) - Ahmed Azam Khan, MP, is a distinguished lawyer and an experienced politician who has made significant contributions to both the legal arena and national politics of Bangladesh.
His leadership qualities, academic achievements, and professional experience have established him as a respected and influential figure, said a handout issued today.
He was born on 14 January 1957 in Basail of Tangail district into a respectable Muslim family. He is the eldest son of the late Habibur Rahman Khan and the late Begum Sajeda Khatun.
Ahmed Azam Khan is a well-known lawyer in Bangladesh and a prominent member of the Supreme Court Bar. He has been practicing law with reputation and integrity for many years.
In the Parliamentary Election 2026, he was elected as a Member of Parliament from Tangail-8 (Basail-Sakhipur). Through active participation in national politics, he has been contributing significantly to leadership, policy-making, and organizational activities.
He is a significant central leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and currently serves as a Vice Chairman of the party. He also plays a vital role as the Chief Adviser of the Nationalist Tax Lawyers’ Forum. His political journey began in 1967. During his student life, he actively participated in the Mass Uprising of 1969 at the regional level. In 1971, he worked as a local organiser and directly took part in the Liberation War of Bangladesh. During the final three months of the war, he fought as part of the Samad Kamar Platoon.
He has served as the President of Basail Upazila BNP and was elected as the President of Tangail District BNP, in addition to serving three times as its convener. He also held the position of Adviser to the Chairperson of BNP.
As a meritorious student throughout his academic life, he earned the degrees of B.S.S. (Honours) in 1978, M.S.S. in 1979, and LL.B. in 1982 from the University of Dhaka.
His wife, Begum Nargis Siddika, completed her Honours and Master’s degrees in Economics from the University of Dhaka. She later obtained LL.B. (Honours) and LL.M. degrees. Currently, she serves as a Director of ‘Azam Khan & Associates’ and ‘Khan & Siddik’.
Ahmed Azam Khan is the father of two daughters. The elder one, Dr Anan Habiba Siddika, earned a PhD in Intellectual Property from the University of Westminster Law School, UK. She is actively involved in a wide range of socio-cultural activities. The younger one, Barrister Adree Afifa Siddika, obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of Westminster, a Master’s degree from Queen Mary University of London, and completed her Bar-at-Law from Gray’s Inn. At present, she is serving as a lawyer in the Bangladesh Supreme Court.
