DHAKA, Mar 29, 2026 (BSS)- State Minister for Health Dr. M. A. Muhit has asked the authorities to complete the preparation of 40 ICU beds at the National Institute of Diseases of the Chest and Hospital (NIDCH) immediately.
The directive came after he visited the hospital’s specialized Asthma Center today, where the newly constructed ICU facilities are being set up. The visit is a follow up of a discussion held on the occasion of World Tuberculosis Day.
Addressing the officials of the hospital Muhit said, the ICU unit must be made operational quickly so that ordinary people can have access to the service at affordable costs.
“Our goal is to build a healthy Bangladesh and ensure advanced healthcare facilities for every citizen. At the same time, low-income people must be able to receive quality treatment at minimal cost,” he said.
According to hospital sources, the ICU block will be established by renovating an abandoned space of te hospital. Once operational, it is expected to reduce patients’ dependence on private hospitals for the treatment of complex chest diseases and respiratory conditions.
During the visit, the state minister also provided necessary instructions to improve the overall hospital environment and expand the healthcare services.
