DHAKA, March 28, 2026 (BSS) - Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Husain today called for greater cooperation from physicians to advance the country's medical sector, saying coordinated efforts driven by honesty and dedication are essential to achieve desired goals.
"Otherwise, it will be very difficult to supervise such a huge health sector," he said.
He made these remarks while addressing a programme titled 'CME on Medical Ethics', organised by the Society of Surgeons of Bangladesh at the Abu Sayeed International Convention Center in the capital's Shahbagh.
The minister said he aims to make the Health Ministry free from misdeeds and corruption. "With your cooperation, we hope to elevate our doctors to a position of greater respect. This will ultimately benefit the people of the country," he added.
Sakhawat said that without cooperation from doctors, it would be difficult for the ministry to ensure proper healthcare services.
He urged physicians to convey the message to colleagues at the grassroots level and stressed the need for a coordinated approach across the sector.
Highlighting recent government initiatives, he referred to steps taken to manage the supply of rabies vaccines, preparations to tackle a rise in measles cases, and the emergency establishment of NICU and ventilation facilities at Rajshahi Medical College.
General Secretary of the Society of Surgeons, Professor Dr Md Monir Hossain Khan, and senior and junior doctors attended the programme.
At the outset, participants paid tribute to the late former president of the organisation, Professor AMSM Sharfuzzaman Rubel.
