DHAKA, March 27, 2026 (BSS) - Working people began returning to the capital
as well as the industrial hubs of Gazipur and Savar after spending the Eid-
ul-Fitr holidays with their families, causing heavy passenger pressure at
major transport terminals today.

Since this morning, a large influx of Dhaka-bound passengers was witnessed at
Kamalapur Railway Station, Sayedabad, Mohakhali and Gabtoli bus terminals as
well as at Sadarghat launch terminal.

Trains arriving in Dhaka from different districts carried excessive passenger
loads, with many travellers seen standing or travelling near train doors due
to overcrowding.

Most buses heading towards the capital were fully occupied, while
comparatively fewer passengers were seen travelling from Dhaka to other
districts by buses, trains and launches.

Speaking to BSS at Kamalapur, Shakir Javed, counter manager of Lal Sabuj
Paribahan, said Dhaka-bound services were experiencing heavy passenger
pressure, whereas return trips from Dhaka were seeing fewer travellers.

Rafiqul Islam, who arrived from Cumilla, said he was returning to work after
celebrating Eid with his family. He works as a quality control manager at a
garment factory in Savar.

Mohammad Tajul Islam, returning from Kabirhat in Noakhali, said he is
employed as a production manager at an industrial park in the Gacha area of
Gazipur.

At Kamalapur Railway Station, returning passengers were seen rushing toward
their destinations immediately after arriving at the platforms, using
rickshaws, CNG-run auto-rickshaws, city buses and ride-sharing services.
Despite travel fatigue, many expressed relief at returning safely after
enjoying Eid with their families.

Several passengers said they did not face major suffering during the return
journey. Although transport hubs remained crowded, they expressed
satisfaction at travelling safely after celebrating Eid with loved ones.

Touhid and his wife Sumaiya, who returned from Narsingdi, said they
celebrated Eid with parents and relatives and described the experience of
celebrating Eid in the village as "special and joyful".

Kamalapur Station Master Md Anwar Hossain told BSS that all trains were
arriving on schedule and no major passenger complaints had been reported.
Security and overall management at the station were being maintained
properly, he added.

The government declared Eid holidays from March 17 to March 23. Offices of
government, autonomous institutions reopened on March 24 and 25, while March
26 was observed as Independence and National Day, extending the holiday
period for many travellers.

Transport operators said passenger pressure towards the capital is likely to
continue tomorrow as well.
