Anee urges opposition party to point out govt mistakes avoiding mere criticism

LAKSHMIPUR, March 19, 2026 (BSS) - Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee said the opposition should highlight the government’s good works and draw attention to its mistakes rather than simply criticizing it.

“The opposition’s role is not merely criticism but cooperation with the government and pointing out its errors. In this way, they should cooperate with the government in Parliament,” he told an iftar mahfil at Collectorate School ground here in honor of July martyrs and injured.

Anee said the government has completed one month in office, and everyone should remain patient. Both the ruling party and the opposition must show patience, he said.

The minister said 180 days of canal excavation work is currently going on nationwide as over the next five years, 20,000 kilometers of canals will be excavated. 

He said Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman initiated this programme during his lifetime, and at that time people got benefited from canal excavation, which doubled agricultural production and increased fish farming. 

“Overall, this region became self-reliant. We will continue advancing Ziaur Rahman’s programme under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman,” he said. 

District BNP Member Secretary and Zila Parishad Administrator Sahab Uddin Sabu, Joint Convener Advocate Hasibur Rahman, Bangladesh Football Federation Vice President Wahid Uddin Chowdhury Happy, District Jamaat Ameer Master Ruhul Amin Bhuiyan and Secretary AR Hafiz Ullah, Municipal BNP President Rezaul Karim, General Secretary Professor Nizam Uddin, District Jubo Dal President Abdul Alim Humayun, General Secretary Rashidul Hasan Lincoln, District Chhatra Dal President Hasan Mahmud Ibrahim, and General Secretary Abdullah Al Mamun, maong others, were present on the occasion.
