DHAKA, Jan 27, 2026 (BSS) - Inspector General of Police (IGP) Bahrul Alam today expressed the hope that his colleagues will demonstrate professionalism, impartiality and a strong sense of responsibility in the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad polls and referendum slated for February 12.
“The Bangladesh Police is currently at a crucial turning point and is working tirelessly to boost the morale of its members and regain public trust,” he said. 

The police chief made the remarks while addressing Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) probationers of the 27th BCS (Police) batch at the Hall of Integrity at Police headquarters, said a police press release here. 

Congratulating the ASP probationers, he described their joining as not only a personal achievement but also the restoration of their rightful positions.

Referring to the long deprivation faced by officers of the 27th BCS (Police) batch, he said the victory of the student and public led Mass Uprising paved the way for them to reclaim their legitimate rights after a prolonged legal process.

He noted that the officers’ prior professional experience would serve as a valuable asset in their careers. 

Emphasizing the need to face modern challenges, the IGP said crime is increasingly shifting to the cyber domain and public opinion is now largely shaped through social media.

“In today’s reality, traditional policing alone is not enough…Intelligence, global awareness and technological adaptability are essential to this end,” he said.

He continued that future police leadership must uphold integrity and professionalism both offline and in the digital space.

Alam urged the ASP probationers to maintain punctuality, discipline and strict adherence to rules and regulations during their training at the Bangladesh Police Academy.

Among the probationers, 60 officers are from the 27th BCS batch, one from the 28th batch and six from the 43rd batch.

Additional Inspector Generals, AKM Awlad Hossain (Administration), Md. Akram Hossain (Finance), Khondaker Rafiqul Islam (Crime and Operations), Mosleh Uddin Ahmed (Logistics) and Sarder Nurul Amin (Development) were also present at the ceremony.
