UK HC hosts reception for Bangladesh contingent ahead of Glasgow Commonwealth Games

DHAKA, July 14, 2026 (BSS) - The British High Commission to Dhaka hosted a reception at the British High Commissioner's residence on Monday to honour Bangladesh's contingent participating in the 23rd Commonwealth Games, Glasgow 2026.

The reception was organized as a part of the longstanding friendship and continued cooperation in sports between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom (UK).

The event was attended by members of the Bangladesh team set to compete in the Games, team officials, distinguished former athletes, BKSP athletes, representatives from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) vice president Barrister Sarwat Siraj, its secretary general Jubaidur Rahman Rana, BOA executive committee memebers, Ambassadors and Diplomats from various countries stationed in Bangladesh, and representatives of different organizations. 

Prominent lawyer and social figure Barrister Zaima Rahman also attended the ceremony as a special guest.

Welcoming the guests, UK HC Sarah Cooke extended her heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the athletes and officials of the Bangladesh team.

She said the Commonwealth Games are not merely a sporting event but a unique platform that promotes friendship, harmony, respect for diversity and mutual cooperation among Commonwealth nations. 

She also encouraged Bangladesh's athletes to compete with determination, demonstrate their highest level of performance, and uphold the national flag with pride on the international stage.

Saiful Islam, Chef de Mission of the Bangladesh contingent and treasurer of the BOA, delivered the welcome address.

On behalf of the Bangladesh contingent, he expressed sincere gratitude to the British High Commission for hosting the reception, describing the event as a valuable source of inspiration and motivation for the athletes and officials. 

He said such encouragement would further strengthen the team's confidence ahead of the Games.

The reception inspired the participating athletes and team officials with renewed enthusiasm, motivation and confidence ahead of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, making Bangladesh's participation in the event even more meaningful.
