DHAKA, July 14, 2026 (BSS) - Dhaka University (DU) has drawn up various programmes to observe the second anniversary of the historic July mass uprising in a befitting manner.
A preparatory meeting to finalize the programmes was held today at Professor Abdul Matin Chowdhury Virtual Classroom on the campus, with DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A B M Obaidul Islam in the chair.
Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) Professor Dr. Professor Mohammed Almujaddade Alfasane, deans of different faculties, provosts of various residential halls, the proctor, the acting registrar, heads of offices, and representatives from DUCSU and student organizations were present at the meeting.
During the meeting, the overall preparations and progress for celebrating the second anniversary of the historic July mass uprising were reviewed.
As part of the anniversary programmes, a decision was made to lay the foundation stone for the "July Monument" construction project on the university campus on August 5, 2026.
A committee has been formed to implement this project, with the Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts as the convener and the Proctor as the member-secretary.
Furthermore, the meeting decided to establish a "July Memory Corner" at the Dhaka University Central Library. Another committee has been formed for this purpose, with the Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts as the convener and the Acting Librarian as the member-secretary.
According to the meeting decisions, a discussion meeting based on the theme of the July mass upsurge will be held at the Student-Teacher Centre (TSC) auditorium on August 5, 2026.
Additionally, each hall and faculty will independently take their own programmes to mark the anniversary. Special prayers and monajat will be offered at the university's central mosque, as well as mosques in different halls and residential areas, seeking eternal peace for the departed souls of the martyrs and the quick recovery of the injured. Special prayers will also be held at other religious places of worship on the campus.
The meeting also decided to observe "Women's Day" on the university campus every year on July 14.
